Thanks for your interest in assisting with the Mathews Marathon & Half Marathon. As you can imagine, pulling off an event like this requires a small army of helpers – and that’s where you come in. Whether you’re able to help as a volunteer or as a sponsor, we need you!
All sponsors will be listed on the event webpage and on the race premium (custom hooded sweatshirt), and on all event advertising*. The webpage will include your sponsorship level (see below) and logo (if provided). The race organizer is an IRS 501c3 recognized charitable organization so your donation is tax deductible – Tax ID will be provided on your donation receipt.
$1000 Blue Heron Sponsor
$ 500 Blue Crab Sponsor
$ 200 Snowy Egret Sponsor
$ 100 Fiddler Crab Sponsor
*Event advertising will be prepared a few months in advance of the actual race. Sponsorships that come in after the advertising is printed will still be included on the sweatshirt and webpage.
Volunteers need to attend a 30 minute Volunteer Orientation/Q&A Session one week prior to the event, Sat Oct 9th. On the day of the event (Sat 16th) you’ll set up at your assigned location along the route and get comfortable. Marathons are synonymous with “takes a while” for a reason: finishing times can range from 3 to 6 hours! Providing we have enough volunteers, we’ll set it up for 2 shifts (2-3 hours each).
The race course follows a 13 mile route throughout Mathews County: we will need volunteer stations along the route that will have hydration (water and/or sports drink) and nutrition (gel) along the route for the runners.
Your station along the race course can vary in the set up: a simple table with self-serve mini water bottles and gel packets (we provide) OR use the back-end of a minivan or pick up truck in lieu of a table. We’re really looking for cheerful faces and positive mo-jo to encourage the racers as they pass you.
Marathons and Half-marathons are major milestones for many runners: often they are once-in-a-lifetime events. And whether you realize it or not, you are going to be a big part of their memory. Click a link above sign up and/or sponsor.
Our sincere appreciation,
Wrightly Reed, Race Director
