Cookie Connection 5k – See you next year!

Please reach out with any questions:

Depart the Visitor Center parking lot to the right and follow Main Street to the stop sign and turn left. Continue along the town sidewalks approximately one mile and turn left onto Glebe Road. After another mile, turn left onto Church Street which ends at Main Street right in front of the Visitor Center.

The route is primarily along sidewalks and backroads but is not closed to traffic so use caution. ‘Caution Runner’ signs will be placed along the route along with turn arrows at each turn along the course.

Get Involved. Thanks to Doug, William, Carleton & Emily we are all set for event support for the Cookie Connection (water stop, packet pick up and course safety). Does that sound like something you’d be interested in for a future event? Check out opportunities for volunteering and reach out if interested/ available.

Saturday in December in Mathews County, Virginia.

Race Day Details

Pre-registration Only – no race day registration will be available. This reduces the number of volunteers we need and helps limit contact between volunteers and you.

Race Start Area will be divided into ‘lanes’ that are six feet apart. Groups of 5-6 people will take off followed closely by another group until all runners are on the course.

Packet Pickup – plan to arrive at the Visitor Center by 8:30am to pick up your race bib & chip, get last minute instructions and do any usual race preps.

Chip Timing – the race clock will start as you pass over the start line and will stop when you finish. Therefore, your time will be accurate even with the spacing at the start area.

Cookie Connection 5k race safety precautions

For the safety and comfort of racers and volunteers, the race director & MCVIC have agreed upon the following precautions. Read through these thoroughly and don’t hesitate to send questions on race security to

Masks indoors – race check-in will be just outside the Visitor Center building (covered porch), as will the post-event snacks & drinks and awards. Access to the indoors is available on an as-needed basis (restroom use, for example).

Social distancing
– the Visitor Center will be open during the event. HOWEVER due to safety guidelines for Virginia, we are limiting & monitoring entry indoors so we do not exceed a 25-person limit. Please help us stay in good standing with the MCVIC by limiting your building access.

COVID-19 questions – a volunteer will ask you to answer a couple standard questions about your general health during race check-in. Such as: do you currently have a fever (100.4 degrees or higher), COVID-19 symptoms or exposure in past two weeks, etc. We appreciate your help in complying with our host facility requirements so we can continue to partner with them for events like this.
