Club runners attended the Inaugural Petersburg Half Marathon & 5K event held on April 18, 2015: 2 members running Half Marathon (Jessica & Ronnie) and 2 running the 5K (Sabrina & Christine). We had to depart Mathews at 4:30am to make the 6am packet pickup and the 7am race start time – with just a couple nervous “GPS” moments, we found the Start/ Finish area at the Union Train Station in old Petersburg and had a great morning for a run!
First time Half Marathon runner, Ronnie finished in top 25% of his age group at just over 2 hours; Jessica hit the 2 hour mark as well and is already planning her next Half Marathon (“I just know I can do it better!”). In the 5k, Sabrina placed 2nd overall and Christine got an age-group 2nd place – and both got high marks for “cheering” on the Half Marathon competitors!
The after-race events were ideal (who can argue with pizza, beer, and balloon lady?!) – perfect weather and fun atmosphere – kudos to Petersburg for a successful event!
