Out-and-back was 3.2 miles… which is how I chose to tackle this leg of the PO series since it was so short, relatively. I’m not sure when spring will decide to make a presence, because March is nearly over and the temperature still isn’t 50 degrees. Combined with the wind and heavy mist/ sprinkles, it made this morning’s run chillier than expected.
Port Haywood PO 23138 to Susan PO 23163
When I left Port Haywood Post Office 23138, I headed east on New Point Comfort Highway/ Route 14. I took a couple side roads on the trip out to avoid main roads: the first was Red Mens Hall Road, less than a block from Port Haywood PO. Then back onto New Point Comfort past Hunt Road, Diggs Wharf, and another jaunt on side road Williams Corner right before reaching Susan Post Office 23163. On the return trip, I stayed on New Point Comfort back to Port Haywood PO. Here are pictures of start/ end points.

Rainy day running…
When I left home to start out on this leg, there was a very fine drizzle. As luck has it, the drizzle turned into a light rain, but I was committed to the run. Determination won out and I left the Onemo Post Office 23130 in the early evening for the 3 mile run to Port Haywood Post Office 23138. Departing Onemo PO parking lot go left on Bethel Beach Road and continue for more than a mile. At the Stop Sign, turn right onto Potato Neck Road.
In approx 1/4 mile, the road turns bears left and Potato Neck Road becomes Hamburg Road. Follow Hamburg Road for more than a mile to Route 14/ New Point Comfort Hwy. Port Haywood PO is at the corner on left.

I got PO’d last night…
I kicked off the first leg of my first county of Post Office runs yesterday evening. This coincided with the beginning of Daylight Savings Time and with the first beautiful weather evening of the late Winter (almost Spring).
North, Virginia 23128 sits along VA Route 14, John Clayton Highway, near intersection of North River Road. Just a short distance away is destination of Foster, Virginia 23056 – it takes a little longer to go the backroads, but the scenery is worth it.
From North PO – yes: it is right there in the Shell Station – turn right onto North River Road and follow it for approx 2.5 miles (about 2 miles in, North River Road veers off to the right – stay left and it becomes Cardinal Road). Pass the Marina, Hudgins Auto Body, and Cardinal Self Storage. Left on East River Road wraps up the second half of the route and finish back on VA Route 14 – past The Poddery – right at Foster PO.
